Prayer Space Activities
Mini Prayer Trees
To explore prayer by making and using a mini prayer tree.
Collection of sticks, selection of buttons, beads and craft embellishments, glue gun, scrabble craft letters, selection of different coloured yarn, and scissors.
The first thing you need to do is to make your tree from the sticks. In order to make your mini prayer tree strong enough, you will need to use a glue gun. Always ask an adult to use the glue gun. Glue 3 of the sticks together to make a triangle. Then take a shorted stick and glue it in the centre of one of the sides of the triangle for the trunk. Next, choose the colour(s) of yarn you would like and then wrap the yarn around the triangle. You can wind the yarn loosely or tightly, stopping every 5cms to secure with the glue gun. You will be using your mini tree to support your prayer time, so how you decorate it will depend on the things or people you want to focus on in prayer. Sit quietly, in a space you feel comfortable in, and hold your mini prayer tree. Concentrate on the different embellishments you have used, the different words and colours. Talk to God about all the things your prayer tree makes you think of.
