Prayer Space Activities
Prayer Catchers
To explore prayer through making and using prayer catchers.
Wooden circles with holes (or paper plates with holes punched), felt tip pens, selection of different coloured yarns, selection of beads, buttons, embellishments, scissors, glue gun, 4
leaf shapes.
Our prayer catcher is intended to help focus our prayers.
Firstly, make your prayer catcher by colouring the wooden circles (or circles made from paper plates). Next you need to choose some yarn to sew the small middle circle to the large outer circle. Then cut 4 lengths of yarn, in the colour of your choice, and tie them to the bottom of the larger circle. Now thread some beads onto each of the 4 lengths of yarn. To secure the beads, thread one of the leaves onto the bottom and tie them on. To complete your prayer catcher, you can add buttons, beads and other art and craft embellishments around the larger outer circle. Always have an adult to support when using a glue gun. Thread a piece of yarn through a hole in the top, so that you can hang your prayer catcher. You can use your prayer catcher by writing prayers and slotting them in the web part, or just by sitting and reflecting on the colours, shapes and words, as your prayer catcher hangs in a place you have chosen.
