Aim

Prayer Jars

To create a personal representation of all the things, people we talk to God about.

You will need

An empty clear jar, selection of letters, selection of art and craft embellishments, felt tips, glue, large lolly sticks and scissors.

First of all, decorate your jar in any way that you feel. We decided to keep it simple with a few natural embellishments and some lettering. Next decorate the large lolly sticks with the prayer ideas that are going to be put in your prayer jar. We discussed how our prayer jar would be used. Prayers are a way of talking to God about that things that are on our hears. Some of the ideas and themes we included on our lolly sticks were: family, friendship, values, leaders, thankfulness and worries. Another idea we explored was cutting out pictures of family, friends, people in our school and our community. We discussed making our own prayer jars at home, putting pictures and things that are personal to our families. When your prayer jar is finished choose a lolly stick, sit quietly and talk to God using the words, pictures and decorations on your stick. We also wrote some prayers. We keep our prayer jar handy and use it when we meet every day. You can keep changing the sticks and adding different things.
