Prayer Space Activities
Static Electricity Prayers
To explore prayer through science by carrying out static electricity prayers.
Balloons, tissue paper and a selection of felt tip pens.
First, cut a square of tissue paper and write your prayer. You may consider: your family and friends; the world; your school; leaders in the world; things that are worrying you; your pets etc. When you have written your prayer, rub the tissue paper on your jumper and place it on your balloon. Your prayer will stick! The static electricity created causes the tissue paper to stick to the balloon. This symbolizes that, when we pray and talk to God, our prayers stick to him. We decided to put all our prayers onto one balloon to show that prayers from everyone stick to God.
