Aim

Our Personal Values Tool Box

To explore the concept of choosing the right value(s)/tools for a situation.

You will need

Old tool box (or draw one of your own), paper copies of tools, felt tip pens, laminating pouches, laminator and scissors.

We have designed this activity to demonstrate that we have many value ‘tools’ in our toolbox that we can use in all sorts of different situations in life. Firstly, cut out the tools and decorate them. On each of the tools write a value that you have used in your daily life e.g. trust, friendship, hope, love, faith, forgiveness, honesty, wisdom, compassion etc. Cut out and laminate your tools and place them in your toolbox. Sit with a partner or in a small group and discuss different scenarios e.g. someone on the playground seems unhappy and lonely. Which value/tool will you choose to help you with this situation? A friend has made a mistake and let you down, which value/tool will you choose to help you with this situation? Repeat this with different scenarios. You could make scenario cards to accompany this activity or think of different ones each time you carry out this activity.
